Not every shipment fills a full container. LCL shipping (Less than Container Load) lets your business share container space with other cargo heading to the same destination, so you pay only for the space your goods occupy.
FORW handles LCL shipments on major trade lanes worldwide, managing booking, documentation, and coordination through a single dedicated contact who knows your business and your shipping needs.
LCL stands for Less than Container Load. Instead of booking an entire container, your cargo is consolidated with other shipments going to the same destination. You pay for the cubic metres (CBM) your goods occupy, nothing more.
The alternative is FCL (Full Container Load), where you book the entire container. LCL is typically the better choice when your shipment volume is too small to fill a container efficiently, or when flexibility matters more than the fastest possible transit.
For most standard LCL shipments, transit times are slightly longer than FCL due to consolidation and deconsolidation at origin and destination ports. We will always give you an estimated schedule when we quote.
LCL works well for businesses that:
If your cargo regularly reaches 15 CBM or more, FCL may offer better value per unit. Talk to our team and we will help you assess which option fits your volume and timeline.
We coordinate the full process from pickup through to the port of destination. This includes booking with a trusted consolidation partner, preparing shipping documentation, handling export customs clearance at origin, and keeping you updated throughout.
You work with one contact at FORW throughout. That means fewer handoffs, faster responses, and a clear picture of where your cargo is at every stage.
For imports, we handle customs clearance at the receiving port as well, so the process stays in one place from start to finish.
We regularly handle LCL shipments on high-volume trade lanes including:
